The Salmon Run

Today we decided to go down to Tumwater Falls park, which is just a few miles from our house, to watch the salmon spawn and to see if there had been any change in the color of the leaves since we were last there.
The park is made up of a 15 acre site which runs along the last part of the banks of the Deschutes River before it flows into Capitol River and on into the Puget Sound. As well as being a really pretty area to walk along it is also fun to see the fish ladders which were built to encourage the spawning of salmon.

One of the biggest salmons we've seen yet!

We got to see some salmon trying to jump up this waterfall. Seems a bit too much like hard work to me!

The favorite part of the whole adventure for Thomas and Olivia is pretending they are pirates (or wild animals!) on the ships they have at the top of the fall area.
