The kids of course were awake much earlier than we had expected. We moved the bookcase across the stairs so that no one could hop over without us knowing. Thomas also knows that we're pretty serious about the no one downstairs without everyone rule too, so he made sure to wake everyone up before he came to get us!
Santa was a little nervous about his offerings since the pajamas had been such a big Christmas Eve disappointment. He was also nervous when there had been some discussion in the week with Olivia about what she would like Santa to bring. When an Easy Bake Oven was bought up she said that Santa couldn't bring that because he has to make the present with his elves! I quickly reminded her that he had given her a Dora castle one year and she seemed satisfied with that!
Inspecting gifts
Everyone was happy
I think that the idea of making some pinkalicious cupcakes with the easy bake and pinkalicious really went down well with Olivia!
Checking out the offerings
Getting his Harry Potter DVD's
A hug from his little girl was all this daddy wanted
Everyone was happy with the things they received. I did feel really bad for Zach though. I watched as he opened every present. He genuinely liked what he had, but he quickly ran back to the tree and circled around it like he was looking for something else that he was expecting. When everything was opened he burst into tears because he didn't have a new Buzz. As I asked Zach what he wanted for Christmas he was pretty consistent with his reply, "A big Batcave and a new Buzz Lightyear." I was fine with the Batcave, but I reminded him over and over that he might not get a Buzz because we already have a ton of them. Apparently, he trusted Santa to come through and he didn't. Santa must have felt a little sad with how well he did!
We had planned on just having the kids open stockings before we had breakfast and headed to Church, but since we had more than enough time we did everything. Zach and Olivia were a little sad to get up and leave their toys, but we survived. The meeting went a little long for Christmas morning, but it was good to be at church.
We chatted with the Johnson's for a while after. I could tell that Johanna was totally sad that her Christmas hadn't turned out as she's planned and that they ended up with Panera for Christmas Eve (to be honest I can think of worse!) We decided to just pray that no one would get sick and had them over. I had made a breakfast casserole that was too much for Spense and I to finish alone and then I threw in some muffins and some banana and pumpkin bread too. It was nice to spend a little time together.
Thomas got a Kindle touch so he played around on
that for a large part of the day
We chatted with family, put together numerous Lego sets, and had a low key dinner. Since my family are all arriving tomorrow we decided that we would have our more formal Christmas dinner then, especially since the kids don't really eat anything anyway.
It was then time for a little Just Dance upstairs in the playroom.
Breaking out their moves
I was surprised at how into it Zach got
How grateful I am for my little family and the wonderful gift of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
