Championship Game

Spenser is a pretty competitive guy, especially when it comes to sports. When it comes to being a sports coach however, he is a little bit different. He doesn't like to yell and scream at the kids like some of the other coaches do. He gives everyone a chance to play positions. He quietly instructs them and then expects them to do their best (he does also make them run the field after a game sometimes when they haven't behaved particularly well both on and off the field!) Today his team had made it to the championship game and he knew that they had a pretty good chance of winning. I've never seen him too bothered about whether or not the kids lose before, but today was different. We had played the other team before and their coach was quite loud and rough with the kids and Spenser wanted to beat them.

I had to finish up with Olivia at soccer so we were a little late getting to the game. When we arrived neither team had managed to score yet and you could tell that the atmosphere was tense. In the 3rd inning our team was out in the field first. We had already used our best pitcher in the first 2 innings and so he wasn't allowed to come out again. Jorden took a turn and a couple of kids got on base. With 2 outs he managed to strike the next kid out and thankfully any run scoring was prevented. Our kids then got up to bat. Thomas managed to get on base and then made a nice slide tackle to stay in at 2nd. I was proud of Thomas because I know how much he hates to sacrifice his body sometimes! With just 1 out, Thomas made the winning run. The kids were thrilled and so was Spenser! After 4 years of trying his 'Wolves' were victorious.

After the game we had a short trophy presentation. We really had a great group of kids again this year and some of them have been together for the past four years, and so it was kind of sad.
