A Double Celebration

This year I got completely gipped. Mother's Day and your birthday on the exact same day doesn't add up to the same attention that you might otherwise receive if they are separated a little! I did pretty much claim the whole weekend as my own though, so I guess there is only so much whining I can do. I actually feel worse for my brother in law Brad who had to share this day with his wife. That must have been a no win situation for all involved!

Yesterday the weather was beautiful. There was no baseball so we had the day all to ourselves. We had thought about going out for breakfast, but Thomas slept in and Zach and Olivia were both pretty much ready to eat as soon as they woke up. When kids who don't always like to eat ask to, you get them up to the table and give them what they want! After having to get upset at a couple of people who were whining about going to get flowers, we went to Bark and Garden. The greenhouses were hot so we couldn't stay for too long! We then drove down to the bay and ate lunch at Thriftway. I always love it there on a sunny day because the Sound looks so beautiful.

The afternoon was spent digging and planting and entertaining most of the kids in the neighborhood. Spenser moved various bushes around for me and didn't even complain. He was trying so hard to be nice!

Today breakfast was made when I got up. Spenser gave up on breakfast in bed after the very first time he tried and I couldn't eat it. I'm not a huge breakfast person, especially at an early hour, and he did give me biscuits and gravy. I'm not sure that I'm a huge fan of that at any time of the day, but especially not first thing.

After lunch it was off to church. Zach didn't do so well without me being in nursery anymore, so he cried himself to sleep and got to come to class with me. I then had a steak dinner prepared for me in the evening. After dinner had been digested Thomas wanted us to go outside and play together. We decided that we would have a little England vs USA soccer game. Thomas and I got on our new hoodies that Grandma Elaine just sent to let Spenser know that we were serious. Olivia also decided that she wanted to be England. I feel so bad for Spense that no one wants to support their home team, but they're smart enough to know who stands a better chance in this years World Cup. With 3 against 1 England managed to pull off a win - barely!

The evening ended with birthday cupcakes, which the kids all enjoyed. After I put Zach down to bed I stayed upstairs on the computer for a while so that I didn't have to help out with the clean up too much. I can't just sit and watch someone else do it all, but if I'm not in the room!

Spenser's cupcakes

Beautiful!

Zach always loves to sneak a lick of the frosting

The night would only have been made better if my favorite Jet and Cord would have won 'The Amazing Race,' but that all goes to further prove that good people often come in 2nd because they're not willing to play dirty.

How grateful I am for all who tried to make my day special. I'm also grateful for these wonderful kids that I get to raise with a wonderful husband. Thank you for looking past my failures and imperfections.

Thomas brought home a little booklet that they had made in primary and also in school that had them answer some questions about their mom. Here are some of my favorites:

My mother loves me best when... I do my homework and do not cry.
My mother looks prettiest when... she is anywhere at anytime.
My favorite thing about my mother is... that she is from England and she has no favorite child.

My mom would never... jump off a 1000 foot building!
My mom's favorite game is... soccer
When we are outside, my Mom likes to... play soccer
My mom is really good at... scoring goals in soccer (notice the soccer theme here!)
Something my Mom says a lot is.. stop hitting Olivia to Zach
My Mom's favorite thing to do with me is... everything
Something my Mom has taught me... is to read the scriptures (as I said I'm glad that they think that you're doing a better job than you often do).
I know my Mom loves me because she... does everything except the things I am responsible for.

Oh, the joy of raising little people!

Oh Nadia,

I wondered how the day went. You don't celebrate the UK Mother's Day?! I swear it was in March...you should...or maybe just call it Nadia day.

Love to you--thanks for keeping up on your blog. I really do love being able to keep up with you guys this way!
