A Busy Day

Today was a busy day. We had promised Thomas that we would go to the zoo today and even though it was threatening rain we went anyway. As we pulled into the zoo the rain really started and we spent our summer afternoon getting wet. We just decided like everyone else there that we would make the most of it and enjoy the day.

We got to see all of our favorite animals and ate some lunch. Zach was particularly fond of the giraffes and elephants. Thomas spouted off numerous animal facts as usual and Olivia spent most of the day telling us how tired her legs were which meant that she needed to be carried.

Olivia helped out with her brother for a while

Say cheese.
Pulling your brothers mouth helps him to smile!

We paused at about every statue there is for a shot

The face doesn't show it, but this lion
statue is Olivia's all time favorite.

Dad gave in and carried her for a while.
She just enjoyed giving me a crusty look.

Look at how wet those jeans got

By around 2:30 p.m. we decided to call it a day and headed out to our warm, dry car for the trip back home. When we arrived home we decided to head down to the Farmer's Market to take part in the Pasta Dash. The race is set up in support of the local school district in which you can buy a pasta dinner at the end of the race. The kids got dressed up too for the fun run. That took place a little after the hard core runners had all headed out.

Ready with their numbers to run

Some pre race stretching!

Ready for the race to start. Spenser decided
to run in the 10K.

Thomas was up front ready to get going

I met Thomas as he headed back to the finish line. He was
in good spirits and did a great job.

I was proud of Olivia. She had started off at the front with Thomas and went out too fast at first to try and keep up with him. I jogged with Zach and when I caught up with her she had a pretty bad stitch that stayed with her for the rest of the race, which is why she's running with her right arm at her side. She walked for a while, but never gave up.

Here they are with their finisher ribbons
Thomas may look sweaty, but that was mostly water!

Waiting for dad to come in

We were so happy and proud once we saw dad make his way in. It was nice to see him finish a race since I didn't get to go up to his half marathon the other month.

He was hot and sweaty and trying to finish strong!

He gave us a little smile.
His official time was 45:11.

Well done you guys!

I love when children participate in the races! It is a great thing for them! Lane did a 5k one year with us, but the little ones are just too small still! I love it. You guys sure do have beautiful children!

I can't believe they were up to that after walking around the zoo all morning. Just the zoo walking wears me out...I guess I ought to get to the gym more often.. :)

I guess if Olivia and Thomas can run I have no excuse.
