As a parent I love for my kids to be happy. Sometimes in the quest for this happiness I find myself doing things that really in the long run don't matter too much at all. Today, for example, was one of those days. Olivia had her last baseball game of the season and we were asked to bring treats since the kid who was supposed to bring them hadn't shown up in weeks. Since the person who had said that she would sort out trophies hadn't, we thought it might be fun to make treat a little more special by making some baseball sugar cookies. Like all projects, this took longer than anticipated and we weren't able to get out and enjoy the beautiful day. I was frustrated since we seem to have had so few days to enjoy. I thought that a trip out to Anderson Island would have been perfect, but it wasn't to be and so I spent a lot of the day in a grouchy mood.
When we turned up to the game we found that the assigned kid had turned up. A couple of parents mentioned how great the cookies were, but really when it all came down to it no one cared too much. On a more positive note Olivia had a great game though. She managed a couple of hits and did great during the base race.
So the lesson learned today was that in life there are lots of choices that we have to make about how to use our time. There are lots of good things that we can do, but there are also things that are better. Today I chose to do something that I thought was good, when a day out together would have been even better. I just keep living and learning.

It's the thought that counts and the cookies were pretty snazzy. Good job!
