I love to cook, but I don't like deciding what we're going to eat for dinner every night. It's probably one of my least favorite things to do as a mom. Sitting down together for dinner has always been important to me, but I feel like I often get stuck in a rut and end up cooking the same old things over and over again. Worse than that there have been weeks when I end up going to the store everyday because I didn't decide what to make. We all know how easy it is to throw in the extra carton of ice cream and other non essentials when we do that!
So, with the dawning of a new year I decided that there had to be something better. I read on a friends blog about 'The Food Nanny.' She sets up theme nights to help with more effective meal planning and has some tasty and easy recipes in her book. I decided to buy it and wasn't disappointed. Since then I know what we're going to have each night. This is how I set it up:
Sunday - Crock pot
Monday - Chicken
Tuesday - Italian
Wednesday - Fish/Meatless
Thursday - Mexican
Friday - Pizza
Saturday - Beef
I've been doing it for 5 weeks now, and still haven't used a single repeat recipe. Yes, I am a little proud of myself!

Way to go! A weekly menu is key for me. I used to go to the store every day too, and we ate out WAY too much. I like that you are doing a theme night...that makes the menu planning even easier. perfect!
Great idea. If anyone needs help in the kitchen it is me!
Wow, that's great. I also hate deciding what to make for dinner. Rozanne & I used to lament about it all the time. I miss the days when I used to make a plan for the week. I need to do that again. It was really helpful and helped us eat out way less often.
Nadia,
you don't give us repeat meals when we come. i only have had black bean soup once each year, cinnamon rolls, Etc But your a great cook.
lots of love Dad
I wondered about this book! I am glad you like it. I struggle with coming up with dinners as well. I feel like it is especially hard with the little ones because some days I can't even get dinner made if I want to. I used to do a schedule and now I miss it. I will have to look into doing this book, thanks for the tip!
She is coming to do a fireside here next saturday, I'm really excited now I read your post!
Yeah! I am glad that you like the food Nanny! I love her simple plan!
Thanks for the good idea. I always get good inspiration from your blog! I think I might try the themes for the day.
