We were home just long enough to do laundry when we packed up and went to Portland for the weekend. We couldn't see a nice weekend go to waste. We arrived Friday afternoon and hit Wilson pool for a while before finding dinner and heading back to the hotel.
Our plan the next day was to hike Multnomah Falls. This idea was of course met with quite a bit of resistance, but we dragged the kids along anyway. Our biggest challenge was that it turned out to be about the hotest day of the whole entire summer that we could have chosen. We made sure to stock up on water and snacks to sustain us on the climb.
It also happened to be kids weekend, so we got to make these cute little name tags on the way up.
There was of course some pulling, encouraging, and moaning along the way, but for the most part they all did really well. We made sure to take regular breaks for water and snacks and that seemed to help. Zach seemed to struggle the most towards the end and I carried him for a while on my shoulders until I couldn't do it anymore. His only option was Spenser. That wasn't Zach's first choice because he was 'so sweaty,' but when you're desperate you do what you have to.
We finally made it to the top - and yes Spenser was in fact a little damp (although not as chunky as this photo makes him look!)
The top!
Now we got to look forward to going back down
After some ice cream at the bottom we headed into Portland for some lunch and a trip to Cupcake Jones and Powell's books.
Olivia with her new Fly Guy book and frosting shot that
she had to eat pretty quickly so it didn't melt.
We had a great couple of days in Portland, but like I said it was pretty warm.

Great job to everyone for making it to the top of Multnomah! I am hoping we'll go there in June for my birthday. We haven't been in several years and I've never made it to the top. It is really beautiful.
