Lost

Mum and Dad arrived tonight. We were all excited to see them. The kids were so excited that they were willing to make the long drive to the airport. I was just excited that we arrived before their plane had landed. A first for me.

We made the loop a couple of times before we finally spotted them. There was hugging and bag loading and in the midst of all this chaos a bag turned up missing. Another first for me.

I questioned mum as to whether or not they were certain that they had taken it off the carousel and put it onto the cart. She was pretty sure. Dad just wanted to leave. Mum just wanted to tell us all that was missing. The great thing about it was that the bag in question was a bag that they were returning to us. It's a bag that often goes back to England with them when their suitcases are full.

I told dad that we couldn't just leave. We had to report it to somebody. Dad walked back inside just to check that it wasn't in there. I walked up and down the curbside for a little while hoping for some miracle at this point. I called Spenser for the number to the airport police. Someone was sent to find us.

By this point Zach had lost it. He had been in his car seat for too long and was ready to leave. I let him sit up front and play with the wheel. That seemed to make him feel better for a while. Well until he had to go back into his seat again. Olivia was scared that a policeman was coming. It made her so nervous that se had grandma take her to the bathroom. Thomas was just annoyed at how long it was all taking.

The policeman came. He took a statement and a rough estimate of the contents and their worth. He even walked down to the end of the street just to be sure that it hadn't been tossed in the bushes when the person realized that there was nothing useful inside. It's not like the clothes of a lady who is a mere 4 foot 10 inches are going to be useful to just anyone!

We finally left the airport. Zach finally screamed himself to sleep and mum recounted the whole way home everything that she had lost and how much she "loved those boots!" Luckily, for them in jest Josh (my brother in law) had teased her about her luggage being delayed and so she had a clean pair of underwear in her carry on.

We can only think that either someone walking by or the people in the car parked beside us took the bag. Mum has high hopes for it's return. I wish I could be as optimistic.

Oh I feel your Mum's pain I know how much she loved those boots (if they are the ones I thinking of) and I would have done the exact same thing re-counting what was in the case!
