In nursery at church today we were having our usual issues with temperature control. Hot air was blasting us and so we had the windows open to prevent us from overheating. Towards the end of church I noticed that the kids had started to gather around the open windows. Some of them were grabbing chairs so they could see what was going on outside. A scary thought I know for the little band that I have. As I looked to see what they were so interested in, I saw that it had started to snow. Not having listened to the weather for a good while I just assumed that it would stop and go away, but after we got home from church the kids rushed outside to play and we got quite the dusting.
Everyone around here had been saying that we were in for a much milder winter this year so I hadn't worried a whole lot about snow gear. Luckily, Thomas and Olivia's snow boots still fit them. Zach was without appropriate footwear since I had returned the rain boots I purchased a few months ago after many attempt to get them anywhere near his feet had resulted in squealing. Thomas still had snow pants and I managed to find a jacket and pants out for Olivia that were Thomas', so she looked like a cute little boy!
Working together
Thomas getting a start on the snowman
When mom insisted that it really was cold enough to need a hat on,
Zach decided that the snow just wasn't worth it and we headed inside.
The snow fort that Spense and Olivia worked on
Olivia decided to creatively name her snowman "Frosty." When Spenser came inside he told me that he thought that Olivia actually believed that when she put on Frosty's hat he would come to life, just like in the movie. I think that the "Oh no, it's not a magic hat. Frosty didn't come to life" comment was a pretty good indication!
Licking the snowman upon competition is apparently very important!
Look at this good man. He spent all afternoon
and a good part of the evening outside with the kids
with no thought of his own warmth and comfort.
As I look outside tonight I have great fears for tomorrow. I am sure that a late start is imminent!
