Happy 4th!

Today we celebrated the birth of this great nation. I was a little bit miffed that all of the celebrations around here were today so we didn't get to go to the parade and had to spend a lot of it in church. I also got to listen to the congregation singing merrily away to the tune of my national anthem. I do have a problem that one of the most widely used American patriotic songs stole the melody to "God Save the Queen." I always sit quietly when that one's being played! Despite my sour mood, I did get into the spirit of things when we got home and decorated desert to take over to our neighbors house.

Our patriotic star brownies

Red, white and blue cupcakes. I searched far and wide
for some flags but we ended up with pinwheels instead!

Olivia and Ryan enjoying some food

The gang
After the food it was outside for some fireworks

Zach was ready with the hose incase there were
any problems

Our neighbor Lom just loves Zach. Not sure he
feels entirely the same way though

Thomas lighting those nasty snakes

Zach kept a close eye on everything

After snakes in the backyard it was time to move out front for bigger and better things.

Thomas letting off his gun

Lilly and Olivia ready for the show

Zach liked what he saw

Dylan and Thomas

Our big show!

Olivia assumed her typical position

Those smoke bombs were the smelliest

Once the sparklers came out...

...she couldn't handle it anymore and sat on our porch

This year we decided to spend less money on fireworks and go and see the show put on by the city. We asked the Christensens to join us. We had planned on going over to the park, but as we drove out there Spenser suggested that the cemetery might be a good place to see it all. I didn't really like the idea, but as we drove by there were people camped out everywhere so we pulled in too. I thought it was a little sacrilegious, but the guy sitting next to us said that he wouldn't care about people enjoying themselves on his grave if he was dead. I wasn't sure how much better that made me feel, but we did have a great view once we moved from behind the tree! And yes, they are fleece jackets and blankets that you see. It was definitely the coldest 4th of July we've had in our time here, but fun anyhow.

Zach slept through the whole thing
Happy 4th of July!

Wow, I have never thought to go to the cemetery to see the fireworks. We usually avoid the fireworks show because of the crowds and trying to get out of the show afterwards. We'll have to copy you and try the cemetery next year.

That picture of Olivia covering her ears reminds me of our Thomas during fireworks! He hates them too!

That made me laugh!! Although me and my scaredy-pants self would never go anywhere near a cemetery at night. You are brave!!

I didn't know about the "God Save the Queen" song. Which song is it that stole the tune? I would have felt a little weird about the cemetery too, but it's good you had a nice view and didn't have to fight the crowds.
