The Luck O' The Irish

When I first came to America it was very interesting to me that the American people were so into celebrating St. Patrick's Day. I later came to learn that there are indeed a lot of people here with Irish roots. Spenser thought that it probably wasn't right for me to be joining in with the festivities since I'm English, but hey, when in Rome do as those Romans do I always say!

Thomas, like with most things, got really into it. We went on a little date together to the mall the other week and he had me buy him a green shirt for the occasion. He had been going on all week about St. Patrick and something about snakes! I have to admit that I frequently learn things from Thomas. Did you know that St. Patrick is said to have driven the snakes from Ireland and that's why they love him so much?! Oh, and did you know that it's Thomas Jefferson's face on the nickel and his Monticello residence in Virginia on the back? Thank goodness that kindergarten is teaching me so much about America. It's definitely money well spent!

Since Spenser said that his mum always made them green pancakes and colored their milk green I thought that I would try and stay true to the tradition. Thomas thought the milk was cool and actually would drink nothing else all day, but he wasn't touching the pancakes. I think that the brown color from the wheat batter and the green food coloring didn't make for a pleasant sight. Spense thought they were good though! We ended up with another nutritious substitute - apple jacks since they are green and orange. I have to be honest that I didn't even try making any pancakes for Olivia since she pushes away every plate of food that I put before her, and I couldn't face yet more rejection. As for the milk chocolate is the only way to go for her!

When I got Thomas and our neighbor Ryan from the bus later in the day they were wearing these cute little hats and so I just had to take a picture of them. They insisted that I do it in front of the March calendar that I have hanging in the kitchen and so that's what we did.

I LOVE the pictures of the boys. That is adorable. Wow - you are not even Irish and you have gotten into it more than I ever have. Maybe next year I will try making a green meal. The pancakes looked delicious.

Well since we're not Irish, I still don't understand the celebration but nevermind. It looks like it was a good day and I think the green milk is very clever! xx
