Fathers and Sons

Today we got back from the annual adventure that is Fathers and Sons Campout.  For us, that means driving 20 minutes to the Nisqually River basin and camping out with the ward.  This year we also brought along a young man, Adam who is being baptized on Sunday ( He was baptized on Sunday, we all know we never actually write these entries on the actual day anyway).  We had all these big plans for leaving early, but running errands and getting backed into (in the Sentra) delayed us a bit.  We bought a new tent from Costco and even had it out Thursday to practice putting it up, making sure everything is there (and lets be honest, so I didn't look like a fool by not looking like I could put up my own tent in front of all the other men).

We arrived about 6:30 after the Father and Sons dinner tradition of stopping by Carl's Jr for dinner.  Really, who wants to cook dinner at 7:30 when the coals are actually ready when a Western Bacon Cheeseburger can be your delight after hitting the drive through.  We got there, pitched the tent (successfully), and got on with making S'mores.
Ryan and Conner Johnson stayed in our tent with us (since it sleeps eight we had plenty of room for all of us).

Morning came, breakfast with the ward, a quick devotional, and we were off.  I really love spending the time with Thomas and we enjoyed it.  Thomas did get upset that I left him and Conner in the tent and went off talking to some of the men for about 45 minutes as he and Conner watched a movie in the tent, we were really roughing it.  It actually ended up as a big crisis involving a few tear the next day.  That part made me sad and taught me that I just need
to realize that as he is getting older it is ever more important for me to make sure the time we spend together is quality.
