Our day began with waffles for breakfast- American style. We really have found many uses for food coloring during our many holiday celebrations this year, and today was no exception. We did decided, however, that the waffle probably looked a little more French than American, but since they helped kick the English out too that's probably OK.

We then went down to the city parade. We got there a little late so we didn't get to see everything, but to be honest most parades are pretty much the same and an hour or so is usually enough. Olivia really got into waving at everyone, but she wasn't too keen on the noise that the fire engines made.

Our next door neighbors invited us over to a BBQ with them and to be honest I was happy to just turn up with some ice cream sandwiches and soda. The kids blew bubbles...

ate ice cream sandwiches...

lit sparklers...

and burned themselves while trying to retrieve the parts of falling fireworks.

It seemed as if we were lighting fireworks all night long. Spense and our neighbor had gone in on some fireworks that their brother in law sells on the reservation and so some of them were very loud and illegal. I'm not sure that the fireman across the street totally approved when he drove in later that evening.
When all the fireworks were lit and the sparklers gone we headed off to bed to the moans of Thomas and Ryan who were sad that we didn't have more. I thought that a couple of hours was enough, but obviously next near they'll be contributing some money to the kitty.

Happy 4th of July!
