Tonight when the kids were put front riding bikes I decided to pull the old Radio Flyer out from the back of the garage where it was gathering dust. I really wanted to see if Zach would find going for a ride in the wagon more enjoyable than pushing Olivia's bike into the middle of the road (well, I was actually more interested in making my life easier!) He was very excited to hop into the wagon, but felt that he must wear his sister's Mickey Mouse helmet to keep him safe. We all had fun pulling him around the neighborhood and it bought back some great memories of taking Thomas and Olivia for walks in the wagon.
Everyone went along
A helmet and a ball are a must
That little wagon has been with us on numerous walks, trips to the zoo, and trick or treating around the neighborhood. We got it for Thomas in honor of his 2nd birthday and tomorrow he will turn 7! Spense and I talked about how we would walk around the trail by our condo complex out in Ohio. we would take bread to feed the ducks on the way and through stones into the water. We talked about how we couldn't wait to be done with school and how much easier we thought life would be when we were all done. Oh, how unwise we are! To be back in our two bedroom condo would be wonderful. Life was simple and we didn't have too much to worry about. We really were so very blessed. Even though it's impossible to compare our life now to back then, I'm going to try harder to appreciate all that I have now, to enjoy our kids while they are still young, and stop wishing that life will change!

I think that is just the pattern of life- often feelign overwhelmed in the moment and then being able to look back and see how nice and simple life was. It goes by so fast. The trick is enjoy the moment while giving yourself the ffreedom to not feel guilty for being overwhelmed at the same time. As my kids get older the more I realize that every stage in life has its many blessings and challenges. I miss many of the blessings, not many of the challenges. And sometimes I get to caught up in the current challenges to enjoy the many blessings. You are such a great mom! Enjoy them now and in the future (remind me of that when I am complaining about the 13 year old eye rolling!)
I do the same- I always want to look to the future, telling myself it will get better, and often when I look to the past, I realise it was much better than I had thought at the time, because I was too busy concentrating on the next stage of life! Life too was simpler for us when we were students, living in a one bedroomed flat in a seaside town!
Oh the memories. That little Radio flyer has come in! xx
